- Origin and Significance:
The tradition of Lebaran Ketupat is closely associated with Sunan Kalijaga, one of the prominent Wali Songo (nine Muslim saints who spread Islam in Java). It is believed that Sunan Kalijaga introduced ketupat to the Javanese people. The practice of “kupatan” emerged during the era of Wali Songo, incorporating the existing tradition of “slametan” to impart Islamic teachings on gratitude to Allah, charity, and fostering relationships during Eid al-Fitr.
